Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect after sending an inquiry?
After contacting me, I will be in touch shortly after to discuss your vision and ideas. This is the time to get to know you and the story you are looking to reflect in your photos. We’ll talk about potential shoot locations, discuss dates, length of shoot, etc. Once decided, I’ll send over a simple contract and invoice to secure the shoot. I require a 20% deposit up-front, which is refundable up to two-weeks before the shoot. The rest will be due one week before the shoot and is non-refundable. In the event of severe inclement weather, I’ll be in touch to discuss rescheduling. A week before the shoot, I’ll send an email reminder of all we’ve discussed, as well as the invoice for the remaining 80%.
On your photoshoot day, please arrive at our chosen location 15 minutes before our scheduled shoot time. This is an important time to meet each other, have some time to relax, and get familiar with the location. Then it’s your time to shine!! My ultimate goal (obviously other than to showcase you at your best) is for you to have fun and create unforgettable memories!
I don’t know how to pose, and this makes me nervous!
I know the feeling, but my goal is to make sure you DON’T have that feeling on shoot day. Think of me not as a rigid photographer in which you must perfectly pose; think of me as your sidekick for the day, encouraging you to be who you naturally already are. While I am happy to (and will) give direction on certain movements that lead to natural poses, my favorite (and arguably best) photos come from candid moments of you and any others in the shoot. In fact, I’d even ask you to NOT practice poses unless there are certain ones you want to nail, because come shoot day I will take care of everything to make sure you shine your best. This means that while I’m working with my camera settings, I’m also gauging the lighting on your face, if a certain hand position looks awkward, if the clasp of your necklace is showing, and most importantly, if your pose and expression looks natural or forced. Again, the goal is to capture you at your best, and your best is when you are just completely yourself! Use this shoot to let go, laugh, love, or just be who you want to be in the moment, and leave the rest to me.
Where will the photoshoot be? Can I pick the location?
Mountains, rivers, wildflower fields, desert rocks; how to choose? Part of the initial conversation we’ll have together over email or phone is to find out what type of setting you’re looking for, and what options are available within the radius of the Roaring Fork Valley. I’ll have some locations to choose from in my pocket, but let me know if you have a specific place in mind.
Outside of the valley? Heck yeah, I love to travel! I’m happy to discuss destinations within the state or beyond, as well as adventurous locations that will require more time to get to (like the top of a mountain).
What should I wear?
Depending on the location, season, and type of shoot, I can give recommendations on the color and style of your clothing that will help you and your party (if applicable) look your best! Otherwise, you should wear anything you are comfortable in, and that best describes you. This is something we’ll talk about more in depth after your initial inquiry.
What if the weather is bad the day of my photoshoot?
I will be monitoring the weather prior to your scheduled shoot day, but Colorado’s weather can change by the minute. I am still able to take high-quality photos in light drizzles or snow (these sometimes make unique adventure photos!), but unfortunately pouring rain and heavy snow can show unsightly white streaks in photos. If there is a chance of inclement weather the day of your shoot, I will be in contact with you a few days beforehand to discuss our options and weather windows. I do require cancellations to be made at least one-week before the day of your shoot, so please keep this in mind when planning. Should I decide the weather is not workable within the one-week window of your shoot, I will offer to either reschedule or refund your deposit.
Can I have my pet in the photoshoot?
Yes!! I believe special moments come from your unique interaction with your pet. I aim to capture photos that best showcase your bond together—whether that be playing fetch, hiking a trail, relaxing in the grass, or showing off tricks! Before each photoshoot, I will be in contact with you to learn more of your pet’s personality, your connection together, and any specifics shots that you are looking for. Also feel free to check out these Pet FAQs for more information.
When/where will I receive my digital images?
After the photoshoot, I will choose the best shots, edit them, and send a viewing link to your email. Depending on the pricing package you choose, you will be able to pick a select quantity of photos from these edits. These selects will be delivered to your email in the form of high-quality, digital photos that you can share with anyone. Please allow up to two weeks for this process. I also offer the option for high-definition metal, canvas, and framed prints, and will be in touch with you after delivering your digitals to see if this is something you’re interested in!
